This is a full circle story with this lady… when Wisp was a calf, Triara put her mother in their production sale. I was unsuccessful in acquiring her, but to add insult to injury Paul asked me to give him a hand showing at EXPO Boeuf that year… while showing Wisp with her mother they were crowned grand champion female!

I believe Wisp adds another dimension to our herd in that she is a high volume, high capacity cow that so far has done a superb job on her Golden Oak Maxium heifer calf. I would certainly like to show her as a mature cow this year.

Trinity and Unity are full sisters out of Square-D Victoria, whom we acquired as a bred yearling from the Dukes in SK. This has really been one of our best cow lines. They have consistently produced seedstock that we have either kept in herd, or sold and become major impacts on other herds. Trinity has a picture perfect udder and has always weaned a calf weighing over half of her weight!

We were lucky enough to be able to acquire Xtra from Triara as a calf. She is a Raider out of the famous Joycliff Stardust cow who has siblings in many herds across Eastern Canada… including a flushmate who was the high selling heifer in the 2011 Triara Sale to Bridge Poll Herefords in Australia (Remember Me), and a brother currently in the SEMEX line up (Wideload). She is very much like her Dam in that she is not the biggest cow out there, but she is doing a fabulous job on her Rib Eye bull calf.

Tatyana is the newest addition to our cow line up. She is just one of those cows that when I look at her she makes me smile. I’m very glad that Ivor and I were able to convince mom and dad Thurston to take her to the RAWF… she looked good! She has an exciting WLB Lego heifer calf at her side this year and makes up an unbelievable trifecta of Bradley Farms 2 year olds. I may be spending more time deciding which 2 year old pair to take to the various fairs than actually getting them ready!!!

This young lady has been a pleasant surprise for us. She caught our eye in the Square-D catalogue and we were lucky enough to be able to acquire her. She calved without problem to LJR Miles which was a new sire the Dukes were using last year, and I have to say I’m impressed! The calf is wide through the hips and is a very eye appealing correct bull calf. Logan has a great udder with small teats and a nice tight udder that you want to see in a 2-year old cow.

In 2012 we had a great heifer calf crop, and from the get-go we identified Zelda as the keeper of the bunch. The great part about our calves last year was that there was no crowd favorite… all five calves had admirers and we were able to sell all of them but Zelda. This young lady goes back to our first registered cow Cassburn Bambi and as such we wanted to retain this bloodline as her mother is getting up there in years (she’s 10 now). Zelda is a thick wide topped Rib Eye daughter, that to date has been an easy keeper.

She is straight out of the Square-D herd in Langbank Sk. She is actually the second Square-D Stylus cow that we’ve purchased from the Dukes. Logan was Dad’s pick at the Square-D sale in 2014. If she grows into half the cow our first Square-D Stylus cow is, we will be very happy!

This is the WLB Lego heifer that we decided to keep, partly because she goes back to the original purebred Hereford on the farm, and partly because she is Gavin’s first cow. She has that cow look about her and structurally the only fault one could give her is her frame score… but considering how much of a cow look she has, we have no concerns whatsoever!

This young lady was purchased as a calf right out of the Stonewood Grange show string at the RAWF 2014. She is an MSU Revolution out of Kylie Primrose that goes back to Teejay Yellow Rose. She is a maternal sister to the Senior Cow that Matt and the boys have been showing for quite a few years now. Definitely a different bloodline that we can build on for years to come.
